    The Ethics of Kidfluencers

    The Ethics of Kidfluencers

This week Fred's back on the pod! Matt follows up his last discussion about SXSW by asking for Fred's thoughts on the ethics of children's presence online. Many kids today want to create and post content online, how should parents balance this with the risks of the internet? Moreover, what responsibilities might parents have when making the first digital footprints of their children on their own social media platforms. Finally, how does the allure of the influencer lifestyle impact on what kids today want? These are important questions for young people's online footprints, so listen in to learn more.

Is the Datafication of Gen Z a good thing?

Is the Datafication of Gen Z a good thing?

This week Matt reports back after a panel presentation at Sydney's SXSW on the datafication of Gen Z - is the collection of data about young people a good or bad thing? He disagreed with his co-panellists about the positives of this datafication, suggesting instead that it merely provides businesses with more tools to convince people to buy things.
However, an important point was raised by the supporters of this datafication: what if we actually had control over the data that was collected on us? Ultimately, a system where we could actually track where our data is, and then choose what to keep or remove, surely seems like the best-case scenario. Join Matt to learn a little more about these dynamics.

Artificial intelligence and a 'post-photography' world

Matt's been left with the podcasting microphone today as Fred attends to far less interesting matters at Humanity Health Group. Wielding this power, Matt gives us a short tour of the possible future of information as AI image generation matures.
What happens when any image can be created with perfect fidelity? It might just undermine the unspoken reliance we all have on photography to validate our understanding of reality. Join us as Matt explains why young people don't answer their phones, why you never see a camera phone in Star Wars, and the externalities AI might just impose on society.

A Gen Z that can’t bargain

What a fantastic episode. I was giggling away the entire time. I must say, I relate heavily to Matt in the aspect of CRINGING at bargaining and completely lacking in this talent.

I was brought up with a dad that THRIVES on getting a bargain or a couple bucks off. I’m talking writing a letter to McDonalds if his nuggets are missing for a fiver off voucher, I’m talking having alerts on for “Martin Lewis, Money Saving Expert” deals and I’m even talking the guy that bulk bought hundreds of toilet rolls before it was a covid trend.

Although I cringe at bargaining, I’m my fathers daughter and still love a bargain. How does this work you ask? I have become addicted to finding free items on Facebook marketplace. A bargain with no bargaining required, and a fantastic opportunity for someone who’s just moved to a big city from overseas.

How could this possibly go wrong? The sheer excitement of free items often distracts me from finding anything out about said items.. A lovely colleague of mine offered to drive me to pick up a free TV. Only to realise upon arrival that this TV was 70 inches, what felt like 10 stone and ended up in me hiring a (not so free) van to take it home. A fair lesson to learn from dipping my toe in the Sydney Facebook marketplace scene, until I made the exact same mistake again with a desk.. and again with a coffee table.

Yours sincerely, a gen Z Facebook marketplace addict with no room left to breathe in her flat 😊

Among Us… but learning

Had no idea this pod existed until recently but glad I found it. The first 2 episodes I listened to were the ones on Jonah Hill’s texts and Imposter Syndrome - both really interesting takes.

I loved the Imposter Syndrome Ep as sometimes I feel like I don’t have a breeze what I’m doing half the time in my role. I know it’s not true but it’s nice to know that even the top brass have their off days and that it’s normal. I am making myself truly at home in the learning phase right now and this episode has given me a whole new perspective on the ever growing psychobabble around this phenomena.

Cheers for the food for thought lads and keep up the good (or bad) work 👍
