The Paradox of Standardised Education

It's exam season! Some year 10's are doing their first practise exams, Year 12's might be sitting a mid-year exam, and semester 1 of university is wrapping up.

So Matt and Fred reflect a little on what skills are actually taught in today's education system. Matt has been feeling like he spends half his energy simply working out how to answer the allocated question to get maximum marks, while Fred employs plenty of new graduates who are haunted by the spectre of 'the perfect report'.

What incentive structure within education teaches students to focus on answering the question instead of creating good work, and how can you better support young people in your life to handle the contradictions inherent in this system? Tune in this week to find out.
